Working with the Manchester International Society, the Foundation and International Committee of the Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter sponsored the RocketWorld learning adventure project to help children in the local community understand international peace and friendship.
The project enriches their curriculum and raises their cultural awareness. The project uses a giant inflatable Earth with NASA satellite imagery and volunteers from several countries. These volunteers are postgraduate students at local universities. For example, one group of children gathered around a student from Chile who used his laptop and other artefacts including the countrys flags and showed the children the countrys location, its capital, typical costumes, food, dances and who the famous footballers were.
