The Rotary Club of Astley held a superb 31st Charter Night at Leigh Sports Village. Around 130 guests were present for an evening which included guest speakers Eric Russell (Rotary 1285 District Governor), James Grundy (Leigh MP), Rugby League World Cup CEO Jon Dutton and Rotarian Malcolm Ross, of Mary's Meals. Entertainment was provided by the Astley Unlimited Band and by John Norcott.
Thanks to the generosity of the guests present, £750 was raised from the raffle, which has been donated to the Mary's Meals charity.
This will enable 45 children to be fed for a full year. The collection was topped up with a donation from an anonymous benefactor.
The Rotary Club of Astley had previously donated £1,000 to the Mary's Meals charity last winter.
