Tyldesley with Atherton Rotary had the pleasure of restocking one of the childrens lending libraries that they had set up pre covid.
The club had previously set up 3 lending libraries in local community spaces with a simple aim of encouraging children to read aligned to one of the key Rotary areas of focus. The books and bookcases were installed with an ample supply of books for various reading ages and topics but as you can imagine are starting to look a little sparse as time ticks by. As restrictions begin to be lifted we grabbed the opportunity to restock one of them located at Shackerley Community Centre.
Already a well loved community resource, the bookcase was in desperate need of restocking and we were happy to oblige with an array of books. Well be making our way around to the other lending libraries and looking for other community spaces that would benefit from such a great resource.
Its worth knowing that this initiative came from an idea originally shared by our fellow Rotarian Rosemary Boardman who championed the book giveaways. We held one of these book giveaways and as they were so popular wanted to see how we could build on this idea and make greater connections with the local community. Its wonderful to see how such a simple idea can reach so many people and make a difference.
