We did it again! The pandemic may have shut us down in 2020, but not this year. We were back assisting local charities, good causes you name them they were there, to have the opportunity to pass their story on to the public. It did not rain either so Wigan Rotary Club had the centre of Wigan buzzing with activity. On Saturday 18th September Standishgate once again vibrated with the sounds of people enjoying themselves. There was entertainment throughout the day provided by local groups such as U3A, More Than Words, Pier Town Barbers Shop Choir, Local Vocals and Wigan Youth Zone.
All along the street over 40 representatives of local charities, who had been brought together by the Rotary Club of Wigan, were in full flow telling the shoppers about their good causes, seeking to recruit volunteers and passing on information. Others raised much needed funds so their good work can continue. There was a great atmosphere and the Mayor, Cllr Yvonne Kileve, toured all the many stalls chatting to the participants. It was agreed by all that it had been a fantastic and uniquely memorable day. . Everyone had felt they had to make up for lost time and get on with things once again after so many restraints.
Wigan Rotary Club President, Santi Nandi said We have been very impressed by the number of organisations who responded to our invitation. He continued we have been delighted to bring it all together and it enabled me to meet all the participants and talk to the people who came and joined in the spirit of the day was once again quite a unique and memorable experience.
There was a really tremendous atmosphere this year. Everyone felt free again and Wigan Rotary also had their own stall manned by Wigan Rotarians to promote the work that they do and to encourage more people to join Rotary. It was a very worthwhile experience and one which the Club hopes to repeat in an even bigger and better way next year. Once again it would be open to all local charities, local branches of national charities and recognised good causes, at no cost to them. The Wigan Rotary Club thank the Wigan Council departments who had their own stalls there too, for their amazing co-operation, support and enthusiasm.
