Four members of the Rotary Club of Sandbach recently assembled, one evening, on the Market Square with tins of paint, brushes and glasspaper, ready to sand and re-paint the bench seats. The community service team were back in action after a long period when such activities were difficult to organise. After three hours, the benches were looking considerably more cared-for.
Maintaining the street furniture in the town centre in this way has been a project which the Rotary Sandbach has been involved with for a number of years. A few weeks ago, they were helping to remove the suckers from the large trees in St Mary's churchyard which line High Street - another on-going project - and later, the painting bench seats and other street furniture around the health centre.
Community Services chair at the club, Rtn Keith Merry, said, "It's good to be able to get back to some hands-on projects and feel that we can contribute something to making the town centre attractive to local people and visitors to the town. We have a list of other projects to tackle in the coming months."
