Despite challenging circumstances, members of the Rotary Club of Astley brought some Christmas cheer to local residents in the run up to Christmas. The Club drew up alternative plans, so as to comply with national and local Covid-19 restrictions, which prevented the usual street cash collections from taking place.
Instead, the traditional Float toured the streets of Astley, at a slow pace in the evenings, was on static display at the two Co-op stores in Astley (The Gables and Cross Hillocks) over two weekends, before rounding off the season at the drive through carol service at the Lancashire Mining Museum.
The Rotary Club of Astley wish to thank all members, as well as external volunteers and supporters, who ensured that the traditional Float continued, albeit in different ways. Thanks go to the following organisations and their members: Co-op stores (The Gables and Cross Hillocks), Lancashire Mining Museum, Astley & Tyldesley Cycling Club, Astley Youth Band, Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Hospital Radio, Leigh Spinners Mill, SMD Tyres.
Thanks also go to the general public for their generosity in making donations to the Club, either via text or Just Giving. Donations are still being accepted via the following sites:
