The recently formed Satellite group Rotary Cheadle Royal decided when lockdown was announced in March that any chance of organising charity collections was out of the question for an indefinite period. As they were not going to be holding their usual weekly meeting together, the next best thing to do to support local charities was to donate the monies they would normally spend on food and drink each week. To date they have donated over £2000 of their own money in support of East Cheshire Hospice, St Ann's Hospice, St Barts Food Bank and Chelwood Food Bank.
Leader of the group, Geoff Shelmerdine said, "During these uncertain times it is the least we as Rotarians can do to support local community organisations who rely on donations such as ours to function for the benefit of those less fortunate".
