Our Club adventures and voyage of discovery continue this week with our Socially Distant Cheese and Wine Quiz Evening organised by members Sue and Bob Preece, Sarah Ball and President Michael Lacey. Any proceeds from this evening will go towards the Kasese Flood Relief 2020. (See Facebook page)
Cheese and wine tasters were duly delivered between 3pm and 4:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon, social distancing and hygiene being fully observed.
Sarah, our resident wine expert, advised that as soon as they were delivered the wines and cheeses should be put directly into the fridge - yes, even the red wines!
Thirty one members and their partners Zoomed in for a very interesting 90 minute meeting.
Sarah talked us through the first four very special wines - two white and two rose. After that we tried the first four very special cheeses. It is suggested to have a few crackers or pieces of crusty bread to eat with the cheeses. Ms Ball then talked us through the last two red wines and when complete we sampled the last two cheeses.
(The cheeses were from a specialist shop in Chorlton Cheesemongers who kindly recommended the six different cheeses)
We had three questions to answer for each of the six wines. The questions asked as we went along were Old/New World origin, Country of origin and grape variety and there was a communal quiz on cheeses to round off the proceedings.
Did it work?..........Yes it did! It was great fun and raised a bob or two to go towards the disaster relief in Uganda.
