District 1285 Girl Power did us proud at the Young Chef Regional Final at Kendal College on 16th March.
In fact, our three entrants were almost completely exhausted, such was their will to reach the Young Chef National Final. And what a brave effort it was!
Judges announced the results in reverse order. But there wasn't a 3rd place...as they couldn't choose between our RC Congleton and RC Frodsham/Helsby
Young Chefs, Daisy McAllister (13yrs) and Paula-Jade McCallum (16). So two of our team received the 2nd Place Award,...a fantastic achievement ! and with Amelia Tweddle (RC Ramsbottom) a medalist last year. "still in play" we were suddenly up for a "clean sweep".
Sadly, (for us), Hannah Bentley RC Penrith, won, and took the Regions only National Final Place. But with two 1285 Young Chefs 2nd= that's brilliant !
(Our 2017 National Finalist Rebecca Wilkinson...Dish of the Day Winner ... is still our best 1285 result ) .
Next year our girls will have the experience..., but our boys could storm back.!
Dist 1285 certainly has some excellent Young Chefs. and its thanks to their teachers, Judges, but especially to the support of their Rotary Clubs and their very active Young Chef Co-ordinators. So thanks to everyone involved.
N.B. Young Chef is about introducing new school-kids into Cooking. The Competition is an enjoyable bonus.
Now its over for this year, I am back to
recruiting new Schools for next year. President Elects get Young Chef on your agenda.....Give me a call !
