For the past six weeks members of the Youth and Vocational Service Committee of Stockport Lamplighter have been enjoying a series of cookery lessons with Year six pupils from Westmorland School in Brinnington.
Under the guidance of Rotarian Linda Mullins, a qualified chef, the children have produced a different meal to take home each week. Starting with creating healthy lunch boxes to tasting a variety of fresh vegetable they have progressed to home made soup, egg dishes cooked in a variety of ways and hot spicy chilli. Mums said they were really pleased with the outcome as the children had learned a skill not usually found in the classroom
Four members of the Youth Committee joined Linda in the classrooms each week and had a great deal of fun, especially watching the reaction when he children had to peel their own onions.
The Youth Committee paid for all the healthy ingredients with help from a Stockport MBC grant.
Once again this is another example of Lamplighters getting involved with the local community, having a good time themselves and showing young people what Rotary is all about.
